Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 1 large egg
  • powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
  • Optional for serving:
  • 8 wooden skewers
  • 8 strawberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place 1 puff pastry sheet on the baking sheet. Spread a thin layer of Nutella on top.
  3. Place the second puff pastry sheet on top. Press lightly to seal.
  4. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the pastry into 8 equal strips.
  5. Shape each strip into a heart. Twist the strip once, curve the top into a heart shape, and pinch the bottom point to hold it!
  6. Optional: Slide a soaked wooden skewer through each heart before baking.
  7. Whisk the egg. Brush a light coat of egg wash over each heart.
  8. Bake for 12–15 minutes, until puffed and deeply golden.
  9. Cool for 5 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar.
  10. If using strawberries, add them after baking by sliding onto the ends of the skewers. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Soak wooden skewers in water so the ends do not darken in the oven.
  • Add strawberries and powdered sugar right before serving for the prettiest finish.
