This homemade blueberry lemonade is refreshing and so easy to make with just 4 simple ingredients. It is perfect for warm days, little get-togethers, or just keeping in the fridge for the kiddos and grown-ups to enjoy!
PREP: 10 minutes
CHILL: 30 minutes
TOTAL: 40 minutes
Servings: 4
Course: Drinks

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups blueberries
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups cold water
Optional for serving:
  • ice
  • lemon slices
  • extra blueberries
  • fresh mint leaves

Instructions

  1. This recipe was made in a jar that holds about 5 cups (1.15 liters). Wash the blueberries if you are using fresh ones. If you are using frozen blueberries, let them sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes so they soften a little. Juice the lemons until you have 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice, and remove any seeds.
  2. Add the blueberries, sugar, and about 3/4 cup of the water to a blender. Blend for 40 seconds to 1 minute, or until the mixture is smooth.
  3. For a smoother lemonade, pour the blueberry mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher. If you like a more fruity texture, you can leave it unstrained.
  4. Pour the fresh lemon juice into the pitcher and stir well.
  5. Add the remaining water and stir until everything is well combined.
  6. Taste the lemonade and adjust if needed. Add a little more sugar if it tastes too tart, a little more lemon juice if it tastes too sweet, or a splash more water if it feels too strong.
  7. Place the pitcher in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving. If you are short on time, you can serve it right away over plenty of ice.
  8. Pour into glasses and serve with ice, lemon slices, extra blueberries, or fresh mint if you like.

Notes

  • Fresh lemon juice gives the best flavor.
  • Frozen blueberries can give the lemonade an even deeper color.
  • Strain it for a smoother drink, or leave it unstrained for a more fruity and rustic texture.
  • Start with the listed amount of water so the flavor stays nice and strong.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge and stir before serving.
