We added grated zucchini for extra moisture (you can’t taste it, PROMISE!) and rolled oats for just the right amount of binding and fiber… A touch of Dijon, garlic powder, and fresh herbs round out the flavor, and the whole recipe comes together in under 30 minutes.

Great for meal prep, high-protein lunches, or even a kid-friendly dinner. Trust us, once you try these, you’ll keep a batch in your freezer at all times!

Helpful Tips & Variations

  • Don’t skip squeezing the zucchini. It keeps the meatballs moist, but too much liquid will make them fall apart. Use a paper towel or clean kitchen cloth to squeeze out as much water as possible.
  • Use a cookie scoop for even cooking. This helps your meatballs cook evenly and stay uniform in size (plus it’s faster!).
  • Avoid overmixing. Mix just until everything is combined, overworking the mixture can make the meatballs tough.
  • Switch up the herbs. Fresh parsley is classic, but dill, cilantro, or chopped green onions add a fresh twist.
  • No oats? Use almond flour for a low-carb version, or gluten-free breadcrumbs if you prefer a more traditional texture.
  • Make it spicy. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce for heat.
  • Freeze for later. These freeze beautifully, just cook, cool, and store in a zip-top bag. Reheat straight from frozen in the air fryer or oven.
  • Serve your way. These are great with a side salad, stuffed in a pita, over rice, or dipped in your favorite sauce.

  • 1 small zucchini, finely grated and squeezed dry
  • ½ small onion, finely chopped or grated
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup rolled oats (or almond flour for low-carb)

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill or green onion (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray (for air fryer basket)

How to Make Air Fryer Turkey Meatballs

Air Fryer Healthy Turkey Meatballs
  1. Prep the zucchini and onion. Grate the zucchini and use a clean kitchen towel or paper towel to squeeze out as much moisture as possible. Finely chop or grate the onion.
  2. Mix the meatballs. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, grated zucchini, onion, egg, oats, parsley, dill (if using), Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently UNTIL just combined.
  3. Roll into meatballs. Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to form the mixture into 1½-inch meatballs. You should get about 16–18.
  4. Preheat the air fryer. Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and let it preheat for 3–5 minutes.
  5. Air fry the meatballs. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the meatballs in a single layer (cook in batches if needed). Air fry for 10–12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temp should reach 165°F/74°C).
  6. Serve and enjoy. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce, add to a grain bowl or wrap, or enjoy as a protein-packed snack.

Storage Tips

  • Refrigerator: Store cooked meatballs in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. They reheat well and STAY juicy!
  • Freezer: Let the meatballs cool completely, then freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet. Once frozen, transfer to a zip-top bag or airtight container. They’ll keep for up to 2 months.
  • Reheating:
    • Air fryer: Reheat at 350°F for 4–5 minutes.
    • Microwave: 1–2 minutes, covered, until heated through.
    • Oven: 350°F for about 10 minutes.

Serving Ideas

  • With a dipping sauce: Serve with tzatziki, hummus, honey mustard, buffalo yogurt dip, or marinara.
  • In a grain bowl: Pair with brown rice, roasted veggies, and a drizzle of tahini or herbed yogurt sauce.
  • As a snack or appetizer: Stick a toothpick in each meatball and serve with sauce on the side, great for parties!
  • In a wrap or pita: Tuck into a whole wheat wrap with greens, cucumber, and garlic sauce or avocado.
  • With pasta or zucchini noodles: Toss with warm marinara and serve like spaghetti and meatballs, lighter but just as comforting.

These turkey meatballs are one of those recipes that checks all the boxes, healthy, easy, high in protein, and seriously delicious! They’re perfect for busy weeknights, meal prep, or just when you want something you feel GOOD about eating.
