This isn’t one of those breakfasts that leaves you hungry an hour later… Between the cottage cheese, yogurt, and oats, it’s got plenty of PROTEIN to actually keep you satisfied. It’s the kind of meal that carries me through busy mornings at work without that mid-morning snack attack!

Plus, if you grab gluten-free oats, this whole recipe is naturally gluten-free. No fuss, no weird swaps, just straight-up ingredients you probably already have. It’s wholesome, filling, and let’s be real… when breakfast looks this good, you don’t even think about hitting the snooze button!

Helpful Tips & Variations

Blend the cottage cheese until SMOOTH. No one wants lumpy mousse. Keep blending until it looks like Greek yogurt. (Trust me, it’s worth the extra 20 seconds.)

Chill for clean layers. If you want that picture-perfect look, let the chocolate mousse sit in the fridge for at least 15–30 minutes before spooning it over the oats. The longer it chills, the firmer the layer.

Spoon, don’t pour. When assembling, gently spoon the mousse on top of the oats so you get that café-style two-tone look.

Adjust the sweetness. Cocoa powder can be more or less bitter depending on the brand. Taste the mousse before chilling and add a little extra maple if you want it sweeter.

Make it nut-free. Leave out the nut butter (or swap in sunflower seed butter) and use pumpkin seeds instead of pistachios.

Switch up the toppings. Berries, shredded coconut, or a drizzle of peanut butter are all amazing on top. (Sometimes I let the kids “decorate” theirs — they go wild.)

Meal prep win. Make 2–3 jars at once and store them in the fridge for up to 4 days. Breakfast, DONE.

How To Make Chocolate Cottage Cheese Mousse Overnight Oats

Chocolate Cottage Cheese Mousse Overnight Oats

1. Mix the oats.
In a bowl, stir together oats, milk, yogurt, maple syrup, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. The mixture will look a little runny at first, that’s normal. Divide between two jars or small glasses. Cover and chill at least 2 hours, or overnight, until the oats are thick and creamy.

2. Blend the mousse.
Add the cottage cheese to a high-speed blender and blend until completely smooth (it should look like Greek yogurt, no lumps). Add cocoa powder, maple syrup, nut butter (if using), vanilla, salt, and just enough milk to help it blend. Keep blending until it’s silky.

3. Add the chocolate.
For extra gloss and a firmer mousse, pulse in the melted chocolate once the mixture is smooth. TASTE and adjust sweetness if you need to!

4. Chill the mousse.
Transfer to a bowl, cover, and refrigerate for 15–30 minutes. If you’d like sharper café-style layers, let it chill for up to 1 hour so it firms up a little more.

5. Assemble the jars.
Gently spoon the mousse on top of the oat layer (don’t pour, or the layers will blend together). Smooth the top with the back of a spoon so you get those clean layers.

6. Finish with toppings.
Sprinkle on the pistachios, add a few chocolate shavings, and tuck in a little mint leaf. Grab a spoon and ENJOY straight away!

Storage Tips

  • Short-term: Store jars in the fridge for up to 4 days. The oats will stay creamy and the mousse will HOLD its shape.
  • Keeping toppings fresh: Add pistachios and mint right before serving so they stay crunchy and bright.
  • Freezing: Unfortunately, no… Both the oats and mousse change texture once thawed, so it’s best to enjoy them chilled straight from the fridge!
